About us

Harbour View Health was founded by Melanie Cook; a passionate occupational therapist who values empowering others to live a rich, meaningful and fulfilling life regardless of their circumstances.

We believe being a small, family run practice sets us apart. By keeping numbers small, we are able to provide consistent, and individualised services.

With years of experience, our occupational therapists are proud to provide high quality services. We understand the importance of empowering individuals and families to make decisions to their optimise health, safety and wellbeing.
We work with people of all ages to increase their ability to do things they want to do, need to do and wish to do in their daily lives.

Why choose
occupational therapy?
Occupational therapy utilises a combination of physical, cognitive, and psychological exercises to help people perform daily activities with ease. Occupational therapists help people to develop, recover, improve, and maintain the skills needed for daily life.
How can occupational therapy help adults?

Adult occupations may include domestic tasks like meal preparation, laundry, and grocery shopping, as well as self care tasks like showering, dressing, and grooming. Adult occupations also include things like going to work, accessing the community, socialising with friends.

Occupational therapists at Harbour View Health are experienced in working with people who experience a range of physical, neurological, and medical conditions, as well as age related difficulties.

Benefits of occupational therapy for adults can include improved memory and cognitive skills, improved independence across all daily tasks, improved home safety, easier and safer community access, reduced pain and anxiety, improved mobility and reduced risk of falls.

Often in adulthood, experiences such as ageing, surgery, or medical conditions can mean that completing daily tasks can suddenly become challenging. Through skilled analysis and consideration of your individual needs, an occupational therapist can recommend alternate ways to complete tasks, or ways to compensate for functional difficulties that may be experienced.

Occupational therapists view the person, their environments, and occupations as one. This means we can assess the home environment and make recommendations for modifications or equipment items that may be useful.

Occupational therapists often support children to reach developmental milestones, learn new skills, and overcome specific challenges they may experience.

Occupational therapy promotes learning in children both with and without specific learning needs, physical disabilities, developmental delay or those recovering from illness or injury.

An occupational therapist may work with children in any of the following areas:
-
Developmental skills – the child’s physical abilities, such as fine and gross motor skills, hand-eye coordination, body awareness and sensory processing
-
Functional skills – day-to-day living skills such as eating, dressing, writing, going to the toilet, sleeping, interacting with other children and playground skills

At Harbour View Health, we like to think that children develop a lot like flowers… some only need occasional watering to thrive, while others need a special combination soil, sunlight, and water that it just right for them! With this in mind, our goal is to understand the individual needs of each child and family to help them thrive.

We always bring a creative flare to our sessions with children and incorporate their individual interests to make things fun!
